Three days until the start of the 2009 Season

Bump. Just for fun, I'm giving away a "UMass Football Blog" ball cap to the person who e-mails me the closest guess to the score of the UMass-Kansas State game. My e-mail is available in the "About me" section of the blog. It's free and I'll pay the shipping. I'll erase everyone's e-mail after the contest. It's one of three in existence. Could be worth zillions as a collectible on E-bay.

Kansas State picks their QB starter and it's Carson Coffman.

Also the K-State depth chart is finally up. One thing that jumps out is that the Wildcats will not out size us at most positions. For example, their starting LB corps consists of John Houlik 5-11 219, Alex Hrebec 5-11 238 and Troy Butler 6-1 200.

Kansas State is closing in on a sellout.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Matty Vautour has an article about new UMass punter Caleb Violette (transfer from Virginia Tech) winning the battle to be a starter. In other news, Matty reports no UMass starters in yellow shirts yesterday!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Over on CSN, Bruce Dowd goes from covering the CAA to covering the entire FCS division.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The CAA issues its first weekly football release of 2009 and has information about all the games being played on this weekend.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Defense may the the strength of the UNH Wildcats this year.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Tomorrow I'll be running a "Guest Blog" from a Kansas State Blogger. It's good stuff.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

On the UMass depth chart the only new starter on the offense is Brandon Flanagan 6-2 300 OL who will apparently platoon with Brian Ostaszewski 6-5 300 at RG. Flanagan is a transfer from Buffalo and was very highly rated out of Wakefield HS. He has not had much PT so far in his college career, so it will be fun to see what he can do.
